Aw Kevin - a man after my own heart. I sometimes dread when a new comment comes up for FF - it's either gonna blast me, which obvi I can handle, or its going to be someone who supports my decision. What an odd polarizing restaurant.

Though this thread stretches out over a long period, I figured I'd drop in for the benefit of the curious who stumble upon your site looking for brunch advice (like me) and say that in all this time, FF still hasn't cleaned up its act. I needed a place to take some visiting relatives last month, and on very short notice. I obviously wasn't expecting to get a reservation, but I thought I'd call ahead and see about the outside chance that if I brought them in really early (like 4:30ish) we could get a table. The problem? Nobody felt like answering the phone over a stretch spanning from mid-morning till about 2pm. When I finally did get somebody on the line, I received mostly non-committal answers about whether or not we could be squeezed in during the old folks hour...which strikes me as odd, because you'd think a restaurant would be able to give you a pretty good idea of their status two hours into the future.

*This is a big deal for me.*

Like Erica, I'm very service oriented when it comes to restaurants. Unless it's a very large restaurant, I book all my reservations over the phone, as I view the level of promptness/professionalism during such brief exchanges as an exceptionally strong indicator of the restaurant's quality on the whole. While no litmus test is always correct, the linkage between an establishment's ability to answer a phone properly and honor a simple reservation is often highly indicative of what to expect when actually dining at that location. It's striking that so few people, especially those in my generation, seem to "get" this, and I sometimes wonder if it's eventually going to morph higher end restaurants into something less personal, less interactive, and less focused on what customers want or expect.

I like your style, the fact that your site is a little bit different makes it so interesting, I get fed up of seeing same-old-same-old all of the time. I've just stumbled this page for you :-D

I personally don't like the place that much... The food is good, yes, but the drinks are pricey and the crowd is a bit too snob for my tastes. I'm the jammies/runners type of girl, and this kind of place just doesn't suit me at all.

That's really too bad, I love this place for a special lunch or dinner, but I never thought about going to their brunch. Well now I know I don't have to. There are definitely better places in DC to go brunching.

I do enjoying going to new places, but if I have already had a bad experience with them, then I won't try again or in the case of someone like Founding Farmer's or Creme, I won't even give them a chance, because customer service and not being a douche are important to me.

Hey Abby! Thanks for checking out the blog. As you can tell, things have slooooooowed down. I do have about 5 posts that need to go up from the last, um, year?? Ugh....I have just gotten so busy and now I am leaving DC! I do promise to any brunchers that read this site, that I will get those last few up and try my best to get someone else in DC to take up the torch for me.

Thank you for your post! You confirm and support my theory - if they can't do something like RESPOND TO A VOICE MAIL (that they request to be left in their message btw), then they can't do the more important things like NOT SUCK! Hahahaha...Happy brunching somewhere OTHER than Founding Farmers. There are so many other amazing places to hit up - why waste time on a place that is hit or miss??

This is Abby -- a friend of Ann from Japan who moved to DC about a year and half ago. I like Logan Tavern very much (esp. their gooey french toast) but what's up with the coffee??!! It's so watery and tasteless. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Great blog!
