Reaching bloody high at The Heights! - Columbia Heights
I couldn't make it to brunch at The Heights in Columbia Heights at 14th and Kenyon and I am sad. Sounds like the bloody mary's were off the chain good. Even though they give me wicked acid reflux, I would have braved this disgusting reaction to have a few "Bloody's with texture!" Thanks Dana for the review and for the brave DCBCers who fought off the cold to go to this one back in February!
Drink Specials: There is something here for everyone when it comes to Bloody Marys. For the same basic price, you choose your vodka, heat level, garnishes and other goodies. For a few extra dollars, you can add crab. These were delicious bloody marys, some of the best we have sampled, although it was noted by those who opted for the additional crab that these were "bloodies with texture."
Environment/Service: The Heights takes reservations, so there was no waiting at the bar; there are or course pros
and cons to this feature. For an urban location,
The Heights does feel slightly suburban. Probably due to the plethora
of baby carriages that were rolling around the place. Our waitress,
Heidi at the Heights, was great, immediately pointing out the extremely
impressive bloody mary menu, which made me forget all about the baby
carriages.
Food: The food at the Heights was generally pretty good.
The Eggs Benedict very good, although they needed more Hollandaise.
The Portabella and Spinach Omlette was very tasty and the potatoes nicely spiced.
The Grilled Cheese was excellent, as was the Breakfast Burrito; although the side salad with the Grilled Cheese was nothing special, the crab substitution in the burrito was a good choice.
The burger was judged standard and slightly overcooked, but a couple chunky Bloody Marys seemed to dull the pain.
The Heights has no problem with special orders; the request for eggwhites and extra veggies did not even raise an eyebrow.
Repeat? While Dana didn't answer this, it looks like this would be a place to hit up. I am definitely going to make a visit.
