You can cash in your brunch bets at Cashions!

Alas, when Ann had this brunch, I had just moved into Exile and am no longer in D.C. and therefore could not make attend. Of course I have to miss on that sounded like good service, good food and good times.  Wait...isn't it always? Oh, no, not always good food and good service ( Sette Bello), but ALWAYS good times!

It always blows my mind at how poor service is in D.C. and I have a theory on this.  In LA and New York, service is generally above par because your waiter or waitress is usually an aspiring actor/actress, writer, comedian, or someone looking to be in some cool industry that is fun and creative.  In D.C., on the other hand, waiters and waitresses are generally either college students, disgruntled immigrants, or interns on the hill.  Therefore, their current studies or future life plans do not entail anything having to do with entertaining people or being fun and they are pretty much dreading the un-fun life ahead of them and could care less whether or not you want the dressing on the side or a refill on your mimosa.  What is your take on service  in D.C.?  Let us know by commenting on our blog!

And as a disclaimer to the last paragraph in Ann's blog...I am not just a lush...there are other reasons to have me at brunch: I like to talk with my hands and this inevitably leads to something being spilled and/or knocked over (always entertaining); I have no filter, so whatever is in my head comes spilling out my mouth and you are guaranteed to hear at least one good story about my screwed up love life or the antics of Martini and Olive (my cat and parrot); once the alcohol kicks in, then the bar (no pun intended) is raised a notch or two and I will recruit the team to join me for a whole day/night of fun!

Ann's Review:
***9/9 Brunch at Cashion's Review***
If you have never been to Cashion's Eat Place, you must try it.  I have been there many times for drinks or dinner and it is simply lovely.  The service, even just at the bar, never disappoints and they are pure professionals.  This was my first visit there for brunch though and it lived up to my expectations.

Our server, Susan, was wonderful and won over our discerning companion Mattie.  All agreed that the fresh squeezed orange juice was the best we have ever had (although Vegetate has great fresh squeezed juices as well).  We enjoyed their crusty bread and they were more than happy to refill the basket throughout the meal.

I ordered the cheddar and zucchini omelet with salsa verde, with potatoes and loved it.  It was a good portion and the potatoes were simple and lightly seasoned. Dana went with scrambled eggs and applewood smoked bacon.  The eggs were fluffy and the bacon crispy (as she requested).  Kevin and Mattie went with the open-faced egg sandwich, which is 2 eggs over-easy on a piece of toast with lettuce, tomato and a bechamel sauce.  Here we have a tale of two sandwiches....Kevin thought his was good and enjoyed the fact that there were "layers" of taste in the dish.  Mattie felt that they could have done a better job at "melding" the flavors.  But, both agreed that the toast was little too crisp.

In a shocking change of pace, none of us ordered drinks and I did not ask for a club soda.  I do know that Cashion's makes good drinks and believe that  their bloody mary would not have let me down.  I have also had club soda there at the bar and can say with confidence that it is NOT $4. Clearly we need Erica back!!! Overall, I think that if you want to go, it is more worthwhile to have dinner or drinks in the evening as brunch is a little pricey and does not really spotlight the excellence of the restaurant.
