I'd like a brunch and Tonic please!

March 4th was brunch at Tonic and we had our biggest turnout with 12 DC Brunch Clubbers.  For me, this was the second best behind the Willard (review to come).   Ann didn't write up a review for this one because she had a visiting friend, who is writing a documentary about Canadians who live in the US and why.  I can answer that one: no one does brunch like the Americans.  Really, it's all about the brunch.

Tonic is a bit of a hike for most of us, but it's definitely worth it.  Plus, being in Mount Pleasant makes it a good location for the "drivers" among us because street parking is available. Tonic has good prices and good eats: I recommend the breakfast burrito.  Jeri wasn't at this one, so I am not sure about egg white omelets, but I am guessing they can handle them.   I did try their mimosas, which had a nice blend of champagne and orange juice, and then I had the Irish coffee, which was also tasty (I was uber hung over at this brunch and therefore probably drank more than I ate...I also thought I was on def comedy jams and made it my mission to keep Ann's Canadian friend laughing).

It's a perfect atmosphere for a large group; the patrons seemed laid back and accepting of our (my) noise and with 12 of us, there was a lot of table hopping that the Tonic staff handled with grace and ease.

The only downside is no free drinks or drink specials.  It's the one day where it is acceptable to drink before noon and I always appreciate it when the restaurant celebrates that fact (ahem, Kramer Books where I went without DCBC and had a great brunch, despite the bad reviews of friends).

Even without drink specials a give Tonic a "must visit" rating.   Stay tuned...next post is THE WILLARD!  Currently, the BEST brunch in DC according to DCBC.
